Information in English

HV School (The School of the Association of Friends of Textile Art) was established in 1874 with the goal of promoting Swedish handicraft traditions.

In 1918 the association purchased the handsome four-story building, which still houses HV School today. The building contains the schools workshops, classrooms and offices, as well as the association's textile studio, gallery and small retail shop. Weavers and embroiders in the studio create custom-ordered pieces for public spaces and textiles for ecclesiastical use.

The school is located in the midst of a charming historic area on the recreational island of Djurgården. The lovely green island was once the Swedish king's private hunting grounds. Today Djurgården plays a central cultural role for city residents and tourists.

HV School fulfils the goal of the association by educating craftsmen and teachers. Our ambition is to ensure that traditional techniques and methods are continuously explored, challenged and renewed by future generations.

Applications and tuition fees

For more information about the summer courses and the three-year programme please see the attached document. When planning your studies at HV School please remember that the school tuition fee do not include the cost of books or material. Students must also make their own living arrangements and make sure that they before arriving to Sweden are covered by insurance.

Swedish studies

Our teachers speak English but since the classes are conducted in Swedish we require all students to study the language. Further information regarding suitable language classes is available on request.

Residence permit

If you are accepted to HV School we will send you a formal certification. You will need this document when you apply to the Swedish Migration Board (www.migrationsverket.se) for a residence permit. The permit is required by law of any non-resident who wishes to study in Sweden for more than three months.

Send your letter of application for a residence permit at least three months before leaving for Sweden. Do not wait until the last minute; the application process can be time-consuming.
